A Desk Phone Transformed

At the heart of the Phonedozer is an early 80’s touch-tone desk phone with the classic design of the old rotaries, including the shapely handset. Formed around this piece of telecom history is a bulldozer of exacting proportions. Even Tonka would be proud.

Most of the parts used to make the Phonedozer were hand-crafted from Premo clay, including the entire tread, wheel and wheel mechanical assembly inside the treads. There were some found objects used including copper plumbing pipe, electrical wire, cabinet pushers, plastic beads and window screen. Some of the phone’s original guts have been incorporated as well (forming most of the front hydraulic assembly).

The hardest part to make, and the part I'm most proud of, was the cabin. It was entirely hand sculpted from Premo clay and includes microscope slides for windows. Both lights are functional, powered by 2 AA batteries located inside the phone.
